Lokta Papers 20" x 30"

Handmade in Nepal, Lokta is strong and versatile. It can be painted on with most media but also drawn on. It can be cut, stamped and of course glued. It is a great paper for paper crafters, collage artists, decoupage and bookmakers, as well as for printmaking. These papers fold beautifully, making them ideal for a unique and special gift wrap or for other decorative uses.Ā

Lokta is made from the Daphne plant, commonly known as the Lokta plant. It is seasonally harvested from the base of the Himalayas and grows back each year. It is then hand process and made into pulp, the same way it has been made for centuries.Ā

Dying the natural fibers while they are still pulp with natural and synthetic dyes, leaves the sheets rich in color. The color is not just on the surface but through out the core of paper. And sometimes, in the darker sheets, depending on which side the paper is laid to dry, on side can be richer in color than the other. Paper has 4 deckled edges

Photos are of a small 4" x 4" section of the sheet
